Music Theory Cohorts

Discover the Beauty of Music in God's Created Order

Designed for students ages 13–18, this cohort-based music theory course explores music as part of God’s created order through a classical, Christian lens. Students will engage in hands-on composition, weekly Socratic discussions, and interactive assignments that cultivate both analytical skill and a deeper appreciation for music’s purpose and design.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

This course is a guided exploration of music within God’s created order.

Students will examine musical phenomena from the ground up—integrating critical thinking skills from their broader liberal arts training. Whether musically experienced or just beginning, students will grow in their understanding of music’s structure, meaning, and role in creation. Each week features a live Socratic discussion, where students will articulate how melody, harmony, and rhythm reflect universal truths and point to the glory of God.

01

Discover Music's Design

Students will explore the foundations of music—melody, harmony, rhythm—and how these elements reflect order and beauty in God’s creation. They’ll begin to see music not just as sound, but as structured meaning.

02

Develop Core Skills

Through notation, singing exercises, and listening analysis, students will build essential musicianship skills. Weekly assignments and discussions reinforce these concepts in a hands-on, interactive format.

03

Create With Purpose

Students will apply what they’ve learned by composing original pieces, analyzing great works, and reflecting on how music serves worship, community, and human flourishing—all from a distinctly Christian worldview.
