Joie Koo is a violinist and undergraduate student at the University of Central Florida studying music and finance. She received classical violin training under the tutelage of Olga Kolpakova at the Saint Andrews Conservatory of Music, Dr. Brian Bak, and Dr. Ross Winter at UCF. Her piano studies were guided by Barbara Browning, Priscilla Heffield, Kenneth Landis at Landis Piano Studio, and Christine Schmitz.
Joie has served in numerous orchestral and ensemble settings. This year she was a member UCF Symphony Orchestra led by Dr. Robert Hasty having led as principal second. She also serves as a violinist at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Orlando, where she is currently a member. In the past, she participated for two consecutive years in Youth String Ensemble at Saint Andrews Chapel, performing in evening services, the Orlando area, and traveling once to Tennessee.
In addition, she has participated in summer music programs led by Stetson University, Saint Andrew’s Conservatory of Music, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, which targeted growth, exploration, and collaboration in music. In solo and concerto performance, Joie has earned Superior ratings from the National Federation of Music Clubs.
Joie has experience in classically teaching violin and piano and is dedicated to equipping her students with a solid foundation in music both in technique and musicality. Through her instruction, she hopes to cultivate their love for their instrument, teaching them to glorifying God in practicing, sharing, and learning of music.
Outside of music, Joie enjoys spending time with her family and church, learning to oil paint and to sketch with charcoal, and reading classical literature.
